HALF DAY COASTAL CULTURAL TRAIL (BUSH TOUR)
The coastal countryside and its people offer a different perspective to Kenya’s tribal heritage. The tour provides a glimpse into the traditions and cultures of the coastal people with a visit to a Giriama or Digo Village with our local guide. Continue to Kaloleni to visit the local market and thereafter drive to Kenya Marineland on the North coast which offers an opportunity to observe numerous species of tropical marine life in giant aquariums. A snake park, situated nearby is also visited and you can watch carvers at work producing the famous “Makonde” pieces of art.

HALF DAY SHIMBA HILLS TRAIL
The Shimba Hills are a short drive from Mombasa. South of the Island, they are reached via the Likoni Ferry and are over a thousand feet high which offers one a view of both the Indian Ocean and the African bush. Rare animals like the Roan and Sable antelopes are seen in this area besides elephants, buffalos and a wide variety of bird life.

FULL DAY MALINDI AND GEDI TRAILS
Depart from your coastal hotel and drive north to Kilifi through attractive country covered by extensive sisal plantations dotted with huge baobab trees. Cross the scenic creek and continue onto the ancient city of Gedi – a 13th century ruin in the heart of a dense forest. Thereafter proceed onto the coastal town of Malindi for lunch and an exploration of the marine park in a glass bottomed boat where you are taken goggling by an experienced guide. Later visit the nearby village and watch the Giriama tribe perform exciting tribal dances before driving back to Mombasa by sundown.

FULL DAY – CITY TOUR AND NATURE TRAIL
A comprehensive morning tour of the island including a visit to Fort Jesus is followed by lunch at Mamba Village. Mamba is the Swahili name for crocodile and this “village: is really a crocodile farm. Depart after lunch for the Bamburi Quarry Nature Trail. The wasteland of the stone quarry has been reclaimed and amongst the casuarinas trees and other tropical flora reside a variety of wildlife and birds. Eland and buffalo, crocodiles and other reptiles can be seen wandering with crowned cranes. The commercially viable aquaculture complex is also visited.

TAMARIND DHOW SAFARI
A 12.00 pm or 6.30 pm departure from the Tamarind jetty for the lunch cruise or evening cruise respectively. After a welcome cocktail the Tamarind Dhow Nawalicker (meaning Gateway to Heaven) cruises past the Old Town and Fort Jesus. Fantastic seafood meals prepared by the world famous Tamarind Restaurant are enjoyed while a local band plays music to suit all tastes. A tri-lingual guide, fully stocked bar and friendly service all add to the unforgettable atmosphere. 2.45 pm or 10.30 pm return to the jetty and thereafter your hotel.

TSAVO EAST TRAIL
Before sunrise depart from Mombasa and proceed in the direction of Nairobi for about 115kms arriving at the Bachuma gate where you enter the east section of the Tsavo National Park – Kenya’s largest game sanctuary famed for it’s huge herds of elephants. It is also home to lion, rhino, giraffe and zebra as well as a variety of other smaller game. You will see water birds at home on the Aruba Dam on your way to Voi Safari Lodge where lunch will be served. Good photographs of a variety of animals that come to drink at the waterhole in front of the lodge may be taken. After lunch proceed on a game drive returning to Mombasa in the early evening.

FULL DAY TAITA HILLS TRAIL
An early morning drive, 2 ½ hours from Mombasa, brings you to the game sanctuary at Taita Hills. In this sanctuary you will enjoy a game drive where cheetah and lion may be seen as well as herds of elephants. Lunch will be served at the Taita Hills Lodge after which the tour departs for Mombasa arriving in the late afternoon.

WASINI ISLAND AND KISITE
Depart from the Shimoni (the Place of Caves) jetty at 9.00 am aboard a converted Lamu dhow and sail for the Kisite Marine National Park. Snorkel along a fringing reef of Kisite Island and marvel at the coral and shoals of fish. A seafood lunch is had at an Arab restaurant on Wasini Island. Wasini Village is a true fishing community with strong Arab and coastal influences. Guests should wear suitable attire so as not to offend your hosts. Masks and snorkels are provided on the dhow. However sun protection, sandals or tennis shoes and cover up dress or sarong should be taken along.

TSAVO AND SALTLICK TRAIL

DAY ONE
Depart in the morning and drive inland to the eastern section of the Tsavo National Park. A game drive through the park and a visit to Aruba Dam follows a network of tracks to look and allow for photographs of the wildlife. Lunch is taken at Voi Safari Lodge and thereafter continue to Salt Lick Lodge, set high above a floodlit waterhole. The constant stream of animal visitors can be viewed from the comfort of the roof top terrace well into the night. The night is spent at the Salt Lick Lodge.

DAY TWO
After breakfast proceed on a game drive entering the Taita Hills Game Sanctuary arriving at the Taita Hills Lodge in time for lunch. After lunch return to Mombasa which is reached in the late afternoon.

EVENING CRUISE OLD PORT DHOW/FORT JESUS/SOUNDS & LIGHTS SHOW/DINNER

A romantic dhow sundowner cruise along the shores of the picturesque island of Mombasa, starts off an enchanting evening not to be missed. As darkness set in, we dock at the private jetty and proceed to Fort Jesus. “Arab and Portuguese” men, bearing fire torches, guard the entrance of the fort, constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century – the venue for sound and light – and presentation of the turbulent history of the East Africa Coast. A “candalabra’ lit setting”, creates the atmosphere for a unique dinner served within the fortess by waiters in Portuguese attire. Following this feast, you can return to your hotel, or , at an early request, continue with the evening’s program to the casino and the Bora Bora Night Club for the spectacule midnight show, after which you return to your hotel.

Please Note: If you participate in the full night program, gents are requested to wear long trousers (Casino + Nightclub) and children under 18 years are not allowed access to the casino and nightclub.

Your day begins when you are collected form your hotel and driven to Shimoni, the place of the cave. You will see the cave estimated to be 35 kms long, which was used by Arabs slave traders before shipment to Zanzibar where they were sold at auction. The Arab style dhow departs Shimoni Jetty at around 08.30 a.m . returning approximately 4.30 pm. A welcome tea, coffee and biscuits with tour briefing and individual assessments on the competency and equipments awaits you.

Enjoy a fascination guided snorkeling or diving safari in the famous Kisite Marine Park. Kisite’s extensive reef system is home to dolphins, turtles, over 350 species of vibrantly coloured tropical fish, and an exciting variety of coral life.

Dolphins are seen nearly every day and between August and October humpback whale passes through the Marine Park. Often as we snorkel along the edge of the reef, Dolphins come and join us. Snorkelling is followed by the exhilarating experience of a dhow under sail, weather permitting, on the way to Wasini Island for a memorable seafood lunch.

This safari takes you first to Tsavo East entering via the Bachuma Gate. After lunch cross main Nairobi – Mombasa highway entering Tsavo West National Park and onto one of the lodges in the park. In the evening go on a game drive to explore the park in search of game.

DAY 2
The day is spent looking for game and includes a visit to Mzima Springs. Lunch is taken at either Kilaguni or Ngulia Lodge before driving back to Mombasa arriving in the late afternoon.

DAY ONE
After lunch depart on a trip to Shimba Hills, south of Mombasa, which takes you through the lush countryside, climbing over a thousand feet high and providing a view of both Diani Beach and the surrounding countryside. The game reserve contains an abundance of the rare Roan and Sable antelopes, buffalo, elephants, giraffe and birdlife can also be seen during the game drive. The afternoon game drive returns to the lodge for dinner at the only “Tree Hotel” at the coast, the Shimba Hills lodge.

DAY 1
An early departure at 05.00hrs from your hotel for a 260 km drive to Tsavo Gate , the entrance into Tsavo West. A game drive to Mzima Springs is followed by a drive though the volcanic area of the Shetani Hills passing through areas inhabited by the proud Maasai people. Arrive for lunch and a short rest at an Amboseli Lodge followed by an afternoon game drive.

DAY 2
An early morning game drive before breakfast provides one with an opportunity to get a glimpse of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. After breakfast return to Tsavo West where you have lunch before continuing on a leisurely drive back to Mombasa arriving late evening.

LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Lake Nakuru lies in the volcano –strewn Rift Valley, one of a chain of 8 lakes, which stretch the length of Kenya from Tanzania to Ethiopia. The 160 km’s drive from Nairobi passes through highland farms of the Kikuyu people before descending an escarpment into the dramatic landscape of the Rift.

Lunch is taken in the Park and is followed by and extensive tour which focuses on the bewildering spectacle of a million flamingo but which also seeks out the large variety of wildlife with which the Park abounds. On the return journey to Nairobi a stop is made at Lake Naivasha where tea is taken among the fever trees and where bird watchers will delight in the fantastic array of bird life.

This includes a visit to Elsamere Conservation Centre situated on the shores of Lake Naivasha and the home of the late Joy Adamson. Lunch at the center is followed by a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park.

Amboseli National Park lies within the shadow of mighty Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Game is seen on much of the route to the park. BOMAS OF KENYA TRAIL 3 hours
Just a few kilometers from the city, numerous “bomas” or homesteads reflecting Kenya’s cocktail of cultures have been faithfully re-created for visitors to see traditional village life. The National Park, only 8 kms from the city center, is Nairobi’s pride, for no other bustling capital can boast a paradise of wildlife almost on its doorstep. Though not as well known as Lake Nakuru, this lake also has abundant birdlife. Enjoy lunch and an overnight stay at the Delamere Camp.

DAY 3
LAKE ELEMENTAITA-LAKE NAKURU
Depart for Lake Nakuru after breakfast where you have the chance to see the greatest bird spectacle in the world. A million or so flamingoes beside pelicans and cormorants make Lake Nakuru a bird lover’s paradise.

7 DAYS TURKANA EXPERIENCE

DAY 1
NAIROBI-LAKE BOGORIA-LAKE BARINGO
The descent into the Great Rift Valley, shortly after leaving Nairobi, offers spectacular views of lakes Naivasha and Elementaita before Lake Nakuru is reached. A picnic lunch is taken enroute and soon after passing Lake Bogoria our destination of Lake Baringo is within sight.

DAY 2
LAKE BARINGO – MARALAL
Early morning bird watching along the beautiful lakeshore or perhaps an optional boat excursion on the placid lake. After leaving the lake, the route passes through entrancing scenery as the Rift Valley escarpment is climbed. Maralal is reached at lunchtime. In the afternoon explore the little game sanctuary which surrounds Marallal Safari Lodge, where the night is spent.

DAY 3
MARALAL – LAKE TURKANA
An early morning departure is necessary for the long day’s journey to Lake Turkana, the Jade Sea. The route passes from cedar forest to near desert but the views are always spectacular and there is some game to be seen almost all the way. Reach Loyangalani in time for lunch. This is where you will spend the night at Oasis Lodge.

DAY 4
LAKE TURKANA
A day is spent at leisure perhaps by the two pools fed by warm springs or spend some time fishing for gaint Nile Perch. Other optional activities include a visit to the El Molo Village where Kenya’s smallest tribe is found. A second night is spent at Oasis Lodge.

DAY 5
LAKE TURKANA-MARSABIT
An adventurous day’s driving takes you north along the lakeside before heading east across the barren waste of the Chalbi desert. After a picnic lunch continue to Marsabit National Reserve superbly situated in the forest on the peak of Mount Marsabit which lies from the desert floor.

DAY 6
MARSABIT-SAMBURU
An early morning game drive through the forest trails and glades should enable you to see the huge elephants for which Marsabit is so famous. Buffalo are also common. After breakfast descend from the mountain, cross the Kaisut desert and arrive at Samburu Game Reserve in time for lunch.

DAY 7
SAMBURU-NAIROBI
The morning is spent game viewing and lunch is taken at the lodge before leaving for Nairobi which is reached in the evening.
NAIROBI – TREE HOTEL – SAMBURU/SHABA-MT KENYA –LAKE NAKURU (NAIVASHA) MASAI MARA – 8 Days
Day 1 Nairobi – Tree Hotel
Leave Nairobi in the morning to reach the small market of Nyeri in time for lunch. The founder of the Boy Scout movement, Lord Barden Powell, spent the last years of his life in Nyeri and is buried there. After lunch drive through the forest to the tree hotel of your choice (Ark, Treetops or Mountain Lodge) and spend the night, comfortably, watching forest game as it comes to the floodlit waterhole and saltlick below. at a Tree Hotel.

Day 2 Tree hotel – Samburu/Shaba National Reserve
After breakfast drive north to reach Samburu, which lies on the edge of the vast semi-desert lands of northern Kenya, in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive will introduce you to the animals, which are peculiar to the area – the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and Somali ostrich. Dinner & overnight at a lodge or camp.

Day 4 Samburu/Shaba – Mount Kenya Safari Club
A morning game drive in this wild but splendid reserve. Continue to the luxurious Mount Kenya Safari Club whose immaculately manicured gardens nestle on the forested slopes of the mountain. The afternoon is free to enjoy the numerous optional facilities of the Club, which include horseback riding, tennis, golf, bowls, swimming or just luxuriating in the comfortable and beauty of your surroundings. Dinner & overnight Mount Kenya Safari Club

Day 5 Mount Kenya – Lake Nakuru (Naivasha)
During the morning cross the tip of the Aberdare Mountains stopping briefly to admire 73m plunge of Thompson’s Falls, named after the Scots explorer who first saw the Falls in 1884. Continue to Lake Nakuru for lunch and afternoon visit to Lake Nakuru National Park where the sight of a million or more flamingos cannot be forgotten. Dinner & overnight at a lakeside lodge at Nakuru or Naivasha.

Day 6 Lake Nakuru-Masai Mara
Leave the beautiful lake to drive across the lunar landscape of the Great Rift Valley to reach Kenya’s best-known game reserve – the Masai Mara – in time for lunch. In the afternoon explore the rolling hills and plains for wonderful sights of the great numbers of different species found here. Dinner & overnight at a lodge or camp in or near the Reserve.

Day 7 Masai Mara
A morning and afternoon game viewing. Meals and overnight at a lodge or camp in or near the Reserve.

Day 8 Masai Mara – Nairobi
After breakfast return to Nairobi which is reached around 1 pm
MT KENYA-SAMBURU-BARINGO-NAKURU/NAIVASHA-MAASAI MARA – 7 ½ DAYS

DAY 1
NAIROBI- TREEHOTEL
Leave Nairobi in the morning to reach the small market town of Nyeri in time for lunch. After lunch, drive through the forest to the tree hotel of your choice (The Ark, Treetops or Mountain Lodge)

DAY 2
TREEHOTEL-SAMBURU GAME RESERVE
After breakfast drive north to reach Samburu in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive will introduce you to the animals which are peculiar to this area.

DAY 3
SAMBURU GAME RESERVE
Another day of exploration of this harshly beautiful reserve where game abounds. Lunch is followed by an afternoon game drive.

DAY 4
SAMBURU GAME RESERVE – BARINGO
After breakfast depart for lake Baringo and descend into the Great Rift Valley arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon visit to Lake Bogoria famous for it’s hot water geysers. Return to Lake Baringo in the evening.

DAY 5
BARINGO-LAKE NAKURU AND NAIVASHA
Leave after breakfast and drive along the floor of the Great Rift Valley where Lake Nakuru is located. Lunch and overnight at a lodge in the park or proceed to lake Naivasha where the night is spent at a lakeside hotel.

DAY 6
LAKE NAKURU/NAIVASHA – MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Leave the beautiful lake to drive across the lunar landscape of the Great Rift Valley to reach Kenya’s best known game reserve, Maasai Mara, in time for lunch. In the afternoon explore the rolling hills and plains for the wonderful sight of the great number of different species found here.

DAY 7
MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
A morning game drive followed by lunch and afternoon at leisure or another game drive can be taken.

DAY 8
MAASAI MARA – NAIROBI
After breakfast return to Nairobi which is reached by lunchtime.
